Panasonic is definitely not a new player on the portable video market; their experience with making camcorders goes back to the early days of portapak developed by Sony and JVC during that time as well. Demands are quite high these days as almost every household now has a portable video recording device. It has to be small, lightweight, has to have a long-lasting battery, capable media and high-quality.

To those of you who own a camcorder that records on digital tapes (mini-DV, digital 8, etc.), it should be a pretty simple concept. In fact, most of today's camcorders use an SD card to save still pictures anyway, so why not use it as a main recording media. Also I am sure all of the video amateurs can benefit from cutting back on the size of the tape, that means you have more space when you travel with your video camera.
